using old pure silk
to create new garment

We bring back to life precious, but forgotten 20-70 years old pure silk Sarees
and other second hand materials that would otherwise be wasted.
We thereby use the concept of a CIRCULAR ECONOMY.

the past

Every second, the equivalent of a truck full of discarded clothes ends up in landfills. And only 1% of already existing textiles is reused for creating new garment. The core of the waste problem is an outdated mindset: old stuff belongs in the trash and we need new materials for making new products. This behavior is based on a LINEAR model of economy:

we take away resources from nature to create a new product, which is then used and – when used up – thrown away. Since we don’t put enough effort to replace our already scarce resources, the planet will reach its limits soon. If we want our grandchildren to experience a thriving nature with abundant resources, we should start making our processes more sustainable!

the future

Luckily, our mindset is changing and we are starting to appreciate environment–friendly products more and more. Reusing and recycling is not seen as shabby anymore. And we are slowly progressing towards a CIRCULAR model of economy.

A circular economy aims at finding a harmonious equilibrium between ecology and economy. Instead of taking away resources from nature, already existing materials are recycled, reused, shared, refurbished and repaired. Materials and products are kept within the cycle of production and consumption as long as possible. That allows for regenerating our natural environment and combating the waste problem – while sustaining a stable and dynamic economy.

using Silk with Awareness

Silk is a beautiful and precious artifact with a history of more than 3000 years. But unfortunately it comes at the cost of the suffering of many small animals: the silk worms.

That is why, with Samzari, we don’t participate in the demand for new silk – not only for environmental reasons, but also for ethical ones. Instead, we use vintage silk that is 20 – 70 years old and would otherwise be wasted.

This is our way of advocating for a fashion industry free from animal suffering, and for the further development of plant–based silk!

slow fashion

Instead of chasing trends and making cheap mass clothing, our items are created with love, care, precision and dedication – they are timeless and durable pieces of art. We avoid overproduction and keep our collection limited.

sustainable packaging

Landfills and waste-to-energy facilities release enormous amounts of harmful emissions. We avoid contributing to even more waste and send your items in 100% plant-based, compostable mailers (also for your home compost!). With their second glue strip, they can even be used a second time.
